MATTHEW THOMSON, tenor (Orfeo)

​

    Originally from Melbourne (Australia), he specialises in baroque and classical solo and chamber repertoire, as well as contemporary music. In 2014 he completed the Master of Music (Performance and Teaching) at the University of Melbourne, with Stephen Grant. His voice has been described as "eloquent and polished" in The Age Newspaper and "ideal for the Passions of J. S. Bach" in the Catalan Musical Magazine.
    Since moving to Barcelona in late 2015, he has worked with nearly all of the most prestigious vocal groups in the city, ​​including the Capella Reial de Catalunya, the Cor de Cambra of the Palau de la Música, O Vos Omnes, Cor Francesc Valls, Barcelona Ars Nova, Bach Zum Mitsingen, and more.
    Matthew has been a part of several CD recordings, the most recent being “Markus Passion” with Jordi Savall, “Epistulae ad sagittarium” with Ensemble O Vos Omnes and “Bach ist meine freude” with Bach Collegium Barcelona.
    The summer of 2016 Matthew attended the Dartington International Summer School, where he was awarded the "John Amis Award" and worked with Dame Emma Kirkby. In 2017, he was awarded the Bach Scholarship “Beca Bach” to perform the solo part of tenor in 11 cantatas with Bach Zum Mitsingen.
